There are lots of ways you can go on holidays and leave the daily grind behind you without spending an arm and a leg!
Get into Holiday Mode
Who has caught themselves dreaming about being somewhere other than at work, or at the dentist, or standing in line at the supermarket waiting for the person in front to return from running off to get ‘one-more-thing’ and coming back with three?
We all need a break (for our own health and sanity), and while there is no set formula for getting into ‘holiday mode’, there are things you can do to get yourself and your family in the spirit.
1. Pick your holiday dates
Having a holiday to look forward to can really improve attitudes around the house, at work, while waiting for that customer to get back to the cash register, etc. It’s a state of mind: you’re going on a holiday!
So set the date!
Talk to your family (or whoever you’re bringing along for the adventure) about when the best time will be – whether it’s a simple weekend escape, a school holiday adventure, or one of those ‘whole summer adventures’.
2. Book your accommodation
Not every holiday needs to be in a fancy hotel, looking over a riviera and drinking champagne. We’re looking local! And while we have options (so many options!) we also have the advantage!
As a Brisbanite, you’ll know some of the streets, motorways, low and peak traffic times, best restaurants, local attractions – all that jazz. You have probably even driven past a hotel, caravan parks, camping ground or holiday village on your way to work in the morning. Start thinking about what kind of accommodation experience you would like: hotel room, resort cabin, caravan, tent. Look around and book for what suits your needs the best.
3. Design an Itinerary
So you know your way around Brisbane: the streets, motorways etc, BUT do you know EVERYTHING everything?
This is your chance to get acquainted with Brisbane (and surrounding areas like the Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast). Brisbane is in proximity to countless fun activities, theme parks, year-round cultural events, festivals, plays and fetes!
TRY something that you’ve never done before (indoor skydiving anyone?)
DO all the touristy things and pretend you’re from an exotic land (theme parks or the Brisbane Story Bridge Climb)
