Brisbane is a fun and exciting city with lots of things to do.
There’s the Museum, wonderful parks and gardens, a large variety of restaurants, bars and pubs, and plenty of other fun to be had. But getting around a new city can be daunting, especially if all you’ve seen of it so far is a caravan park or holiday cabin! Let’s take a look at some of the best and easiest ways to get around Brisbane; our beautiful city.
Buses
Brisbane has a reliable bus network that travels in and around the city from the early morning right through until just before midnight. Bus fares are affordable, and buses are a great way to get around the city. There is even a free bus that does a circuit of the CBD!
Car Hire
One way to ensure your independence on any holiday is to hire a car. That way, when you want or need to be somewhere you can just hop in and go! No waiting for public transport, or trying to flag a taxi. Brisbane has a variety of car hire companies all vying for your business. You can even arrange one before you arrive.
City Cat Ferry
The Brisbane City Council runs a fleet of “City Cat” ferries that operate along a large network of terminals. These terminals run from the University though to Northshore Hamilton. These ferries run seven days a week, and there’s never much of a wait between each one. There is also the “CityHopper” which you can hop on and off for free.
Ferry to Stradbroke Island
There are a couple of companies that run regular ferry services from Brisbane to
Stradbroke Island. So if you want to get off the mainland and get exploring, you are really spoiled for choice.
Bicycle
The city of Brisbane has an extensive bicycle path network, making a two-wheeler a great way to get around. There are a number of bike hire outlets as well, so if it’s a sunny day (which it usually is!), riding a bike around Brisbane is a great way to get around, and not to mention the cardio benefits.
Trains
If you’re looking to get between Brisbane and the Gold Coast, then a train is probably your best bet. There is a line that runs directly between the two, with regular services happening all day.
