5 Benefits of a Family Holiday

Sometimes the thought of planning and booking a family holiday seems exhausting. You think of all the work that has to go into finding the perfect accommodation and location, plus all the packing and preparing that needs to be done before you leave!

It’s easy to consider all that and put ‘family holiday’ in the too hard basket. You could just keep things the way they are – school, work, social engagements and extra-curricular activities that you are shuttling your kids to and from.

The benefits of a family holiday are enormous, for both your children and you. It’s more than just a change of scenery and a few cute photos. Once you get a taste of how great it is, you can be sure that you’ll want to take a family holiday at every opportunity you can.

Here are 5 benefits of a family holiday:

  1. It’s a Learning Experience for Both You and Your Children

Kids young and old will learn new things on a family holiday. From navigating their way through a new place to asking questions about the flora and fauna of the place they are in. They’ll learn that the world is much bigger than their hometown and is full of choice and variety.

  1. You Can Spend Quality Time with Your Family

Your family are often the people you want to be with most and the people you spend very little time with. When you take out the busy schedules, you’re able to spend quality time with each other in a relaxing environment!

  1. Everyone Gets a Chance to Relax

There’s no need to put on a performance when you’re with your family. It’s the perfect time to let your hair down, grow your beard or do something silly. Your family know you best and you don’t need to impress anyone. You can forget about work and your children can let the pressures of school life melt away.

  1. You Can Create Some Lasting Memories

Family holidays are rarely forgotten. As your children become adults they will look back at those times with nostalgia. It will help them to understand the importance of taking their own children on family holidays to give them those experiences too.

  1. You Can do Something Outside Your Comfort Zone

Have you always wanted to skydive? Maybe you want to go whale watching or visit Brisbane’s theme parks or other attractions? Tick things off your bucket list and do something you wouldn’t normally do. It’s great for the kids to step outside their comfort zone too – it teaches them the thrill and enjoyment of experiencing something new and different!

Take the Hardest Part out of Going on Holiday

There are so many benefits to a family holiday. If finding the perfect location is still making you sigh, consider booking a cabin or campsite at Brisbane Holiday Village. We will make the process completely smooth and easy, providing a great place to stay and onsite entertainment. Contact us to chat about getting the most out of your family break.

5 Unique Brisbane Attractions

When it comes to Brisbane City, there are plenty of attractions to enjoy. Voted one of the most beautiful city in the world, it’s full of everything you need from dining to entertainment, shopping and even beach swimming.

If you’re looking for something a little more unique, you need to look past the main tourist attractions and delve deep into Brisbane. Here you will find some hidden gems that bring the uniqueness and joy of all that is Brisbane together.

Here are 5 unique Brisbane attractions you won’t want to miss.

  1. Free Walking Tours

It sounds a little strange, but there’s no better way to get to know a beautiful city then to hit the pavement with those who know it and love it best. Brisbane Greeters are your local friendly volunteers who host this free walking tour. They love the city so much you’ll be in love with it too by the time your walk is over.

  1. Finders Keepers Market

If you happen to be in Brisbane when the Finders Keepers Market is on, you’ll be thrilled with what you see and you’ll find many things that you want. Make sure you have room in your suitcase!

The Finders Keepers market hosts a whole bunch of amazing artists and creative locals selling things that they have lovingly created or sourced themselves. When you’re ready for a break, you’ll also find an array of food to suit all tastes.

  1. XXXX Factory Tour

Queensland is pretty proud of its XXXX beer. If you want to see what all the fuss is about you could try it at a Brisbane pub, or you could go one step further and see the real deal by taking a guided tour of the XXXX brewery yourself.

  1. Go Whale Watching and Eat Bugs

You don’t have to go further towards the coast to go whale watching. Moreton Bay is only 14km from the heart of Brisbane. It’s the perfect place to climb aboard and see these beautiful, majestic creatures of the sea up close. The best months for this are between June and November and many of the tour groups offer guaranteed sightings. Oh, and Moreton Bay is home to the famous Moreton Bay bugs, which are somewhere between a prawn and a lobster. If you’re into seafood, you’re sure to find them delicious.

  1. Speaking of Bugs…

If getting out of your comfort zone is really your thing, look for some of the more interesting dining choices in Brisbane. Award Winning Brisbane restaurant, Public, offers worms, black ants, and other weird and wonderful crawlies in their gourmet dishes.

7 Things You Should Always Pack for a Road Trip

Road trips with children usually go one of three ways. They can be bearable, enjoyable, or downright painful. Careful planning is essential to reduce the likelihood of constant whining from the back seat which, if your children are young enough, can develop into cries and screams.

Travelling by car is generally cheaper and more convenient. It also gives you so much more flexibility when visiting attractions, so it really is worth doing.

If you don’t want your car to turn into a scream fest, make sure you pack these essential items:

  1. Food Glorious Food

Pack plenty of food including lunch and snacks. You might be planning to stop for lunch, but you’ll be thankful that you have some sandwiches if your children are snoozing and you don’t want to wake them up by stopping the car.

  1. First Aid

Have a first aid kit in the car that is equipped with everything you need for scrapes and scratches. Make sure it also contains Panadol, insect repellent and some sunscreen. If you stop at a playground along the way, you’ll have these essentials covered without having to dig through suitcases.

  1. New Toys

Sure, old favourites are important, but if you have a hidden goodie bag in the front seat, you can dig out a new toy each time a child starts to whimper. Hopefully, it’ll give you another good hour of peace and quiet. They don’t have to be anything major – matchbox cars, colouring books or figurines are great for young children. A new rattle or soft toy is perfect for babies.

  1. Screens and Gaming Consoles

This is probably the first thing you will remember to pack, but consider sneaking some new games or movies onto them the night before your trip to keep your children engaged even longer. Once you get to Brisbane, they might come in handy on other trips you might take.

  1. Change of Clothes

Your car boot is probably packed to the brink and you can be sure that your child will fall into a muddy puddle or have a toileting accident when you don’t have a change of clothes. Don’t risk needing to get everything out of the boot to reach a spare pair of pants. Have a change of clothes for every child, regardless of age, somewhere in the front or backseat.

  1. Empty Zip-lock Bags

Another reason your children might need a change of clothes is if they get carsick. Reduce the likelihood of that awful smell in your car by placing zip-lock bags beside each child in the backseat.

  1. Batteries of Various Sizes

You don’t want a favourite toy running out of batteries within the first hour of your trip. Packing batteries will mean the fix is easy and painless.

Are you road tripping to Brisbane? You can’t go past Brisbane Holiday Village for perfect family-friendly accommodation for your next holiday. Unwind after a long road trip with us! Contact us today to find out more.

Best Things To Do With Kids On A Rainy Day

Don’t let rain ruin your holiday to Brisbane. Instead, have a couple of great wet-weather saviours up your sleeve. Luckily, Brisbane has a number of fun indoor activities to choose from. From interactive museums to a bouncy trampoline park, try one of these nine activity ideas for when the heavens open.

Play a Board Game

Make your own fun in your holiday cabin or in our holiday park’s welcome lounge. No matter how young or old your kids are, board games are a traditional family favourite. From Monopoly to Chess and Family Feud, they’ll surely be entertained for hours.

Explore the Queensland Museum or Sciencentre

One of the best things about a holiday is getting out and exploring, and the rain doesn’t have to stop you! Go indoors and explore Natural History at the Queensland Museum or Science at Sciencentre for a fun-filled day of learning and activities.

Get Creative at Plaster Fun House

Plaster Fun House is a fun place to spend the morning or afternoon with your children. From $3 per piece, the kids will be able to get creative, painting pre-prepared plaster creations. With hundreds of plaster pieces to choose from, it’s as much fun for you as it is for your kids.

Get Interactive at the Workshop Rail Museum

An exciting adventure for children and rail enthusiasts of all ages, the Workshop Rail Museum in Ipswich brings history to life with a range of hands-on exhibits.

Bowling and Ice Skating

Always a classic option, bowling and ice skating can still draw a happy crowd. Tucked away amongst the fashion set in the Wintergarden, Strike Bowling in Brisbane is a kid’s dream. Or, in both North and South Brisbane, Ice World is a great place for kids to skate around while listening to entertaining music.

In the suburb of Upper Mount Gravatt, Westfield Garden City is one of Brisbane’s major shopping centres. Spend hours entertaining your kids by exploring, shopping, and eating at one of the 440 stores, cafes and restaurants.
