Don’t Miss the AFL and NRL Finals Rounds in Brisbane!

Brisbane is buzzing this weekend with one of the biggest AFL clashes Queensland has ever seen. For the first time in history, the Brisbane Lions and Gold Coast Suns will meet in a finals Q-Clash, and it all happens under the lights of the Gabba on Saturday, 13 September 2025 at 7.35 pm AEST.

The Suns come into the match riding high after securing their first-ever finals victory, a dramatic 80–79 win over Fremantle that ended in heart-stopping fashion.

Veteran David Swallow stood tall in the final minutes, and club legend Gary Ablett Jr has since declared the Suns capable of going all the way. Midfield stars Noah Anderson and Matt Rowell have been central to their surge, and the Suns are determined to prove they’re not just satisfied with one breakthrough win.

For the Lions, the story is one of grit and resilience. Despite a tough loss to Geelong last week and the devastating blow of losing co-captain Lachie Neale for the rest of the season, the team remains a serious contender.

Former Lion Luke Hodge has urged critics not to write them off, praising their finals experience and strong leadership. Hugh McCluggage is expected to step into the spotlight in Neale’s absence, with the Lions banking on their depth and big-game know-how to carry them forward.

Fans across Queensland are already calling this the most significant AFL game ever played in the state. The energy in Brisbane is electric, with supporters from both clubs preparing for an unforgettable night.

Whether you’re heading to the Gabba or watching live on Seven, Fox Footy, or Kayo, this historic semi-final promises fierce rivalry, dramatic moments, and a showcase of the best football Queensland has to offer.

Location – the Gabba

The Q-Clash semi-final will be played at the Gabba, Brisbane’s most iconic sporting venue. Located in the inner-city suburb of Woolloongabba, the stadium is just a short 15-minute drive from Brisbane Holiday Village.

Known officially as the Brisbane Cricket Ground, the Gabba has been home to the Brisbane Lions since 1993 and also hosts international cricket and major concerts. With a seating capacity of around 42,000, it’s the perfect stage for this historic showdown between the Lions and Suns.

Surrounded by lively restaurants, pubs, and easy public transport links, the Gabba makes game day a complete experience — whether you’re cheering from the stands or soaking up the atmosphere nearby.

NRL Finals 2025: The Road to the Grand Final

Brisbane’s sporting spotlight doesn’t fade this weekend — the 2025 NRL Finals Series is also underway, and the action kicks off on Friday, 12 September 2025, with high-stakes matchups running across the weekend through Sunday, 14 September 2025.

Among the headline fixtures in Week 1: the Melbourne Storm take on the Bulldogs on Friday night, the Warriors face the Panthers Saturday afternoon, and Sunday brings the minor premiers—the Canberra Raiders—clashing with the Broncos at GIO Stadium in Canberra
National Rugby League.

From there, Semi-Finals (Week 2) will unfold across Friday 19 September to Sunday 20 September, setting the stage for a dramatic buildup to the Preliminary Finals (26–27 September).

All eyes will then turn to Sunday, 5 October 2025, when the NRL Grand Final takes place at Accor Stadium in Sydney, kicking off at 7:30 pm AEDT, which is 6:30 pm AEST here in Brisbane.

Every week of the finals promises thrilling, sudden-death rugby league, with the NRL delivering prime-time football, intense drama, and one of the nation’s most-watched sporting events.

Whether you’re planning a footy-focused weekend getaway or coordinating a stay at Brisbane Holiday Village for visiting fans, it’s the perfect time to showcase your proximity to both AFL and NRL finals action.
